Scarsdale police are investigating with other law enforcement agencies, the news release said. No one was harmed and there was no indication of a burglary.

The news release said that, around the country, thieves using hidden cameras has become a way to monitor homes for potentially burglarizing them.

In Scarsdale, a surrounding-area search found no other devices. Police patrols have increased throughout the locality, according to the release.

“Unfortunately, the use of cameras has become a popular tactic by thieves nationwide to monitor opportunities for burglarizing homes,” said the release from Mayor Justin Arest, Police Chief Andrew Matturro and Acting Village Manager Alexandra Marshall.

Scarsdale’s release said if someone comes across an unidentified camera or sees suspicious activity on his or her property, call police at 914-722-1200, or 911 in the event of an emergency.

“We understand that this situation can feel unsettling, and we want to equip residents with important information,” the release said.
