Drainage improvement project will alleviate flooding issues in Redwood Avenue

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The Bay County government approved a drainage improvement project for Redwood Avenue in Panama City.

The project would install a 48-inch drainage pipe from 15th Street to Redwood Avenue. kitchen tap with flexible hose

County officials said this area has had several drainage issues in the past. The existing pipe contains clogged parts and needs major improvements.

Commissioners said the new system will help with this, and alleviate flooding and stormwater in the area.

“We always want to try to make sure we’re moving water, we don’t want it standing there in the ditches, saturating,” said Robert Carroll, Bay County Commissioner District 2. “Anytime you have water that saturates in your road base it breaks the roads down, you get mosquito buildup, so any way we can convey it, that’s what we’re trying to do with this project,” he said.

The project will take approximately 150 days and cost $1.8 million to complete. Commissioners said the majority of the cost will be covered by a grant from CDBG, and the rest will come from surtax dollars.

The project contract was signed Tuesday and the county hopes to complete it as soon as possible.
