ePropulsion launches new Pod Drive, Battery, AC/DC energy system - Plugboats

ePropulsion has expanded its electric motors and systems offerings for the OEM boatbuilding market for small electric and hybrid vessels with the launch of three new products at the METSTRADE trade show  in Amsterdam.

All three products – the Pod Drive 20 eSSA, G102-230 battery and PowerCruise Essential energy system – operate with the company’s 96 Volt and ePropulsion Smart System Architecture (eSSA). dc motor 5rpm

“Following the success of our X Series of outboards, I-Series of inboards and the G102-100 battery, we had extensive talks with our boat building partners” said ePropulsion Co-founder and CEO Danny Tao. “It was clear that they are looking for a one-stop shop without multiple vendors to manage, and this is what ePropulsion delivers.”

The Pod Drive 20 eSSA combines the motor, propeller, and cooling system into one sleek, compact unit that mounts beneath the hull. This eliminates the need for bulky inboard engines and complex shaft lines and frees up valuable interior space.

The motor has been designed to give both OEMs and current boat owners maximum flexibility. The installation is straightforward, and versatile mounting options are compatible with various vessel types. The drive also easily fits onto any Volvo or Yanmar sail drive mounting. It also offers hydrogeneration, the ability to have the motor recharge the battery while under wind propulsion in a sailboat.

The new G102-230 battery has a capacity of 23kWh, supports 3,500 cycles at 80% DOD (Depth of Discharge), and up to 8 units can be connected in parallel. It can power the 96V motors of ePropulsion’s X-Series (outboards) and I-Series (inboards), along with the Pod Drive eSSA Series.

The X-Series and I-Series comprise four models with 12, 20 and 40kW of power (≈ 16, 28 and 54hp). The new Pod Drive 20 eSSA is added to the 12 kW model in that model range.

The slim battery design of the G102-230 further extends the space-saving aspects of the Pod Drive 20 eSSA and provides multiple options for energy storage placement such as under-boat or under seating. A built-in intelligent battery management system (BMS) is applied, along with the LiFePO chemistry used in all ePropulsion batteries, to provide maximum safety for users.

PowerCruise Essential is a comprehensive modularized energy system solution developed by ePropulsion for electric and hybrid vessels. The solution works with all the ePropulsion 96V eSSA products outlined above.

The modular design means the system can be configured to offer different functions including automatic power management, hybrid control and supplying the vessel with different AC or DC power needs.

“All of our products are thoroughly tested, and the plug-and-play designs ensures straightforward installation and seamless integration as a total system based on our advanced system architecture” said Tao. “This opens up new design possibilities for naval architects, setting a fresh standard in marine innovation.”
