LISBON — Dashing Divas Boutique at 5 South Park Avenue in the town square has reopened with a new look, new products, and new options for donating unsold clothing or consignment funds. china packaging supplier

The 11-year-old business, owned and operated by mother/daughter duo Amy Faulk and Brook Huffman, held a grand reopening on Jan. 6 after being closed for renovations for two weeks during the Christmas holiday.

The store now has new chandeliers in the front entrance to greet patrons, new flooring, and a new set-up that will include more gift items so people don’t have to travel to Boardman or Salem for a gift and local school spirit wear, Huffman said on Thursday. The store offers free gift-wrapping.

Huffman also hopes to start hosting events for adults and for kids, like a bracelet-making workshop children can participate in while their parents are shopping.

“We want to be more involved in the community,” Huffman said.

Currently, any consigned clothes the boutique does not sell are donated in a local clothing drop bin. But starting on Feb. 1, the shop will start allowing customers to choose what charity they want to donate to.

“We’re going to pick three charities and we’re going to let them choose where they want to donate the money or items,” Huffman said.

The store’s bread-and-butter is good quality clothes brought in on consignment and sold at an affordable price, including prom dresses. But the store also boasts a range of new clothing items bought from wholesalers as well as accessories like reusable cups, sunglasses, jewelry, purses, hats, and kids’ toys and games.

“People are crazy about the consignment, getting a deal,” Huffman said.

She also wants to start a men’s section, since right now the clothing in the boutique is mostly for women and children.

Dashing Divas supports local small businesses by carrying products in the store from McKim’s Honeyvine and Winery of East Palestine, Angel Haven Soaps & Such of Salineville, Tammy’s Sassy Scents of Lisbon, and Willow Creek & South Creations of Salem.

About half of the boutique’s business is done online through clothing auctions or buy now options on Facebook and half happens in the physical storefront, Huffman said.

Originally, the business started when Huffman and her mom, Faulk, wanted to sell some unwanted clothes of theirs and then began to also sell clothes for friends on Facebook out of their house in Lisbon.

“We started out of our house, selling clothes out of our closet on auctions,” Huffman said. “We used to put our stuff that we didn’t wear anymore on auction and it kind of turned into something bigger.”

Faulk worked at 4 Wheel Drive Hardware and Huffman was in college when they started the business, not expecting it to take off like it did and turn into a full-time job.

They opened their first storefront in summer 2013 around the corner on South Market Street and moved to the current location in 2015. They also own the green painted buildings next door that house Fox’s Pizza Den, Nourish Coffee and Kitchen, and Mclaughlin’s Martial Arts.

The duo also started Jamby Style, a clothing line of attire Faulk and Huffman design themselves. The black Jamby yoga pants have been a big hit, selling over 7,700 pairs since Jamby started in 2018.

“That helped us, because we were selling all over the United States with that. (Jamby Style) helped jumpstart this too,” Huffman said of the storefront.

Since beginning selling wholesale clothing in 2018, the store has sold over 62,000 items. Dashing Divas Boutique has 11,000 followers on Facebook and about 1,000 consigners, Huffman said.

Faulk and Huffman also make their own wax for candle warmers, including a squeezable option that comes in a plastic bag with a spout on top, through their other venture, Country Wicks Candle Melts and Gifts.

Dashing Divas is located in the former Cross Department Store that Huffman said operated in the 1950s and 1960s. The store has a historic tin ceiling that was uncovered when the store originally moved in. The focal point when you walk in is a large central chandelier built by Huffman’s husband, Bob Huffman.

Dashing Divas Boutique is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Thursday, and Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, and closed Wednesday and Sunday.
