Gary Rome plans an October opening for his latest venture, a $5 million car wash and self-service dog washing facility on Whiting Farms Road in Holyoke.
HOLYOKE — Gary Rome Hyundai is investing over $5 million in a 5,000-square-foot facility along Whiting Farms Road that will offer a menu of car cleaning options and a self-service dog wash station. roll over carwash
Gary Rome, the dealership’s namesake, spoke Thursday about the car wash and dog wash venture — a first in the region.
“We are excited to see the positive impact this new facility will have on our customers and community,” Rome said.
Besides the 130-foot-long automatic car wash, customers worried about friction will have a touchless option.
A soft opening is planned for October. Sage Engineering erected the steel framing next to the signature dealership.
Sixteen free vacuums will await customers exiting the washing bays. The vacuum motors will be stored in a soundproof room to dampen noise and maintain good relations with the nearby residents.
The car wash design includes a water recycling system and biodegradable detergents and cleaners.
Customers will enter through Gary Rome's main entrance to access the car and dog wash.
Often accompanied by a dog in television commercials, Rome felt the dog wash was a plus for customers. The automatic dog wash will cost $10 for 10 minutes and includes soap, conditioner, flea and tick prevention and a high-powered dryer.
The car and dog washes will have separate entrances and waiting areas with bathrooms and an office.
Rome stressed that the car wash would not be an after-hours hangout. Motion sensors and LED lighting will ensure the parking lot remains clear. In addition, a message will alert trespassers to leave the facility or risk a visit from the Holyoke Police Department.
The car wash hours will align with the dealership’s.
Three bays will be dedicated to car care and detailing, with two reserved for preparing new cars that arrive on the lot.
“Once a year, you want to get that bonded contamination off your car. You can wait for it or drop it off,” Rome said.
Rome and his team visited over 20 carwashes before deciding on the final design. He added that the car wash would be the most state-of-the-art in the region.
The dealership hired Micrologic Associates, a New Jersey company with over 40 years of experience in the industry, to install the latest technology and equipment. A marketing company is working on a new logo and branding materials.
Rome will offer local schools, nonprofits and charities fundraising opportunities. For example, if the local high school wants to fundraise for the football team, customers present a special coupon code and a percentage of the sale is donated to the team.
Rome thanked Holyoke officials and city departments for their assistance throughout the process. A mild winter has kept construction on schedule.
He said he looked forward to the October opening and hoped the community would enjoy the new facility. Between the dealership, car wash and solar farm, Rome has invested over $17 million at the Whiting Farms location.
