QUINCY (WGEM) - With the threat of heavy snow in the forecast, now is a good time to remember to keep your home’s ventilation system clear of snow.
Chief Tom Bentley with the Tri-Township Fire Department said to keep the exhaust vents of your HVAC, hot water heater, and clothes dryer clear of snow, as blocking the airways can cause a buildup of deadly carbon monoxide gas in the home. vent plug for gearbox
That’s not the only problem it can cause.
“For the HVAC system with the furnace, if it side vents, you’ll want to make sure it’s clear again because if it gets clogged up, not only could you have a buildup of carbon monoxide, but it could shut your furnace down then, too,” Bentley said.
Bentley also said that if the snow gets high enough, the vents on the rooftops will also need to be considered.
