Unison Ltd. has launched a tube and pipe end coning and thread rolling machine. Called the Unison CT-38, the machine is designed to create the gas-tight seals required for many of the components used in the hydrogen energy sector, as well as in the global oil and gas industry.
The machine can cone and thread medium-pressure (up to 20,000 PSI), high-pressure (up to 60,000 PSI), and ultrahigh-pressure (up to 150,000 PSI) connections in stainless steel and exotic alloys, such as thick-wall super duplex pipes. The maximum tube diameter the machine will accept is 1-1/2 in. square tube manufacturing machine
The machine sets up quickly, and the coning/threading cycle typically takes about five minutes to complete, including tool changes, for a one-off component. In many cases, the tube or pipe can be bent before threading and coning takes place.
As the quality of the coning surface is critical to ensure a successful seal, the machine completes an overturn clean-up process following thread rolling and before coning. Thread rolling produces a strong thread with zero swarf.
The Tube and Pipe Journal became the first magazine dedicated to serving the metal tube and pipe industry in 1990. Today, it remains the only North American publication devoted to this industry, and it has become the most trusted source of information for tube and pipe professionals.
