Some parents are picking up their children from school after officials said absences would be excused due to the ongoing AC issues.

Stilley says an AC vendor is on-site to address the problem. It is unclear how many classrooms are impacted; however, Stilley believes there is air working in parts of the campus.

This comes after weeks of air conditioning problems at the school.

Students are currently eating lunch and breakfast in air conditioned tents outside as the cafeteria is being remediated from mold.

Students at Hammond High School and Champ Cooper are not experiencing any AC or power issues Tuesday. These two schools were also impacted by Monday's power outage.

The principal of Hammond Eastside Magnet Lower Elementary School issued the following statement regarding the ongoing AC issues:

"We want to update you on the current situation with the air conditioning at Hammond Eastside Magnet Lower Elementary.

"On Monday, September 26, the air conditioning was functioning perfectly until the end of the day when an 18-wheeler accident caused a power outage due to downed power lines.

"Our air conditioning system is monitored by a computer system that automatically shuts off when there is a disruption, and we believe the power outage yesterday triggered this shutdown. HVAC technicians are on-site and working diligently to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.

"In the meantime, we ask that parents be on standby in case we need to dismiss students early today. Additionally, any parent who wishes to check out their child may do so at their discretion.

"We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience and understand the difficulty it poses. Please know that we are doing everything possible to address the situation promptly.

"Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Sharon Walker, Principal Hammond Eastside Magnet Lower."
